Therapy

Therapy that's actually about you — goals you can name, progress you can feel.

Individual, couples, and family therapy for ages 5 and up.

What this is

An honest look at the service.

Our therapy team delivers evidence-based, person-centered care. We work with adults, teens, children (age 5 and up), couples, and families using practical, skills-based approaches.

First sessions focus on relationship and goal-setting. From there, sessions are usually weekly or bi-weekly, 45–50 minutes, and progress is checked in concrete ways every 4–6 weeks.

We coordinate care with your prescriber when both are part of your plan — so therapy and medication aren't two separate conversations.

What to expect

No guesswork — here's how it actually goes.

  1. 01

    First session

Mostly conversation — building rapport, hearing your story, agreeing on what we're working on together. We set 1–3 clear goals.

  2. 02

    Ongoing sessions

Usually weekly or bi-weekly, 45–50 minutes. In-person at one of our clinics or by secure telehealth — your choice.

  3. 03

    Measuring progress

Every 4–6 weeks we revisit goals. We change approaches if something isn't working — not waiting for you to ask.

  4. 04

    Wrapping up

Therapy isn't open-ended by default. We taper sessions or finish when your goals are met, and you're always welcome back.

Common questions

Questions we hear often.

How long does therapy take?

It varies. Many clients see meaningful change in 8–12 sessions for a focused issue; longer-term work is also common and appropriate for trauma, complex grief, or major life changes.

Do you do couples therapy?

Yes. Chiara Johnson works with couples and families.

Can my child do therapy alone?

Older teens and adolescents usually meet alone. For children under about 10, parents are typically involved in some or all of each session.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person?

For most adults and teens, research shows comparable outcomes. We discuss what fits best for you in the first session.
