Medication management

Medication decisions made with you — never for you.

Thoughtful prescribing and ongoing monitoring — never rushed, never disconnected.

What this is

An honest look at the service.

Medication can be an important part of mental health treatment, but it should never feel rushed, confusing, or disconnected from the rest of your care. We treat medication as one tool in a broader plan.

Our PMHNPs handle psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis clarification, medication initiation, adjustments, ongoing monitoring, side-effect management, and coordination with the rest of your care team. We prescribe for ages 5 and up.

Medication is most effective when combined with therapy, coping skills, lifestyle support, case management, and strong communication between providers.

  • Children, adolescents, adults, and older adults (ages 5+)
  • New clients seeking a careful, attentive prescriber
  • Existing clients who want a more collaborative medication partner
  • Anyone who's tried medications that didn't work or caused side effects

Our approach to care

How we show up — for the long haul.

We're not just here to write a prescription. Care is a partnership, and the work doesn't stop when the appointment ends.

Collaborative care

Medication decisions should be made with you, not for you. We walk through options, expected benefits, and trade-offs so you understand what you're agreeing to — and can change direction when something isn't right.

Evidence-based treatment

Recommendations are grounded in current clinical evidence and a careful diagnostic understanding. We explain why a specific medication is being considered, what the research shows, and what we'd watch for.

Whole-person perspective

Medication is one piece of a bigger picture. We consider your sleep, stress, trauma history, relationships, medical conditions, substance use, and goals before deciding what to prescribe.

Honest side-effect conversations

Every medication has trade-offs. We talk about what you might notice, what's tolerable, and what isn't. If something isn't working — or isn't worth the cost — we change it.

Ongoing monitoring

Mental health changes over time. Follow-ups assess your response, review side effects, and adjust the plan. Once stable, we taper when it makes sense — the goal is the lowest effective dose for the shortest time that serves you.

Coordinated care

We loop in your therapist, primary care provider, and case manager — with your permission — so everyone is working from the same plan, not three separate ones.

What to expect

No guesswork — here's how it actually goes.

  1. 01

    Initial appointment

A detailed psychiatric assessment: current symptoms, mental-health and medical history, medications, prior treatment, family history, substance use, safety, and goals.

  2. 02

    Starting medication

We choose a starting medication together, walk through expected effects and side effects, and set a check-in 2–4 weeks later.

  3. 03

    Follow-ups

We monitor response, review side effects, and adjust as needed. We talk about how symptoms are impacting your daily life — not just lab numbers.

  4. 04

    Maintenance

Once stable, follow-ups happen every 1–3 months — most by telehealth. We taper or change medications whenever it makes sense.

Common questions

Questions we hear often.

Do I need to come in person?

Most follow-up medication management visits can be done by secure telehealth. The initial evaluation is sometimes in person, depending on the medication.

What if a medication isn't working?

We try alternatives — often guided by genetic testing — and we don't ask you to stay on something that isn't helping. Adjustments are part of the process.

Will I be on medication forever?

Not necessarily. We taper and stop medications when clinically appropriate. The goal is the lowest effective dose for the shortest time that serves you.

Do you prescribe controlled substances?

Yes, when clinically appropriate. Controlled-substance prescribing follows Colorado regulations and usually requires periodic in-person visits.
